Home to around 13,000 people, the Grey District is a place of untamed natural wilderness. Greymouth, the largest town in the District, is perfectly positioned to be the heart of the West Coast, making it easy for people to base themselves here and enjoy everything that Greymouth and the wider West Coast region has to offer.
Whilst in town, make sure you visit Shantytown, a recreated gold-rush town; view the mighty Greymouth bar crossing from the Blaketown viewing platform; take a stroll along the floodwall which protects the town from the force of the Grey River; sip a drop or two at the iconic Monteith’s Brewery or explore the West Coast Wilderness Trail.
You can also go a bit further afield (but still within easy driving distance) to reach destinations such as the Pancake Rocks in Punakaiki, Hokitika, Lake Brunner, Moana and further south, the glaciers. And of course, don’t forget the 10th Great Walk is opening soon in nearby Blackball – the Paparoa Track and Pike29 Memorial Track.
We have everything you need here in Greymouth: accommodation, restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, 3D movie theatre, recreation centre, walks and much more. We look forward to sharing our special part of the world with you.
